  • Start up minutes of hydro power plant is 2-5 minutes in contrast to Thermal power plant 2-4 hours.
  • Central energy system’s daily load during the winter is 776-800 MW.
  • The EGHPP generated energy will be connected to the CES via 2 circuits double conductors with capacity of 220 kV.
  • The main criteria for meeting the environmental objective are avoided of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and the specific carbon offset of the project is determined in terms of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions avoided per GWh over the lifetime of the project and thus EGHPP reduces 709 thousand ton of CO2 annually.

  • Renewable Energy creates three-times more jobs than fossil fuels.
  • In 1878 the world's first hydroelectric power scheme was developed at Cragside in Northumberland, England by William George Armstrong.
  • Hydropower today provides about 20 % of the world's electricity and is the main energy source for more than 30 countries.
  • Hydropower facilities can quickly go from zero power to maximum output, making them ideal for meeting sudden changes in demand for electricity.
  • Hydropower can also be used for water supply, flood control, irrigation and even recreation purposes.
  • The financial status of the hydroelectric industry is generally healthy due to long equipment life and low maintenance and operating costs.
  • Egiin Goliin hydropower plant is estimated to cover the investment in 20-25 years of time with its sales income.
  • Thermal power plants in UB city burns 3.5 million tons of raw coal, pollutes the air with 4 tons of coal, 4.5 million cubic meters of gas and 6kg emissions of sulfur gas.
  • The Eg river is Mongolia's third largest river, and at the proposed dam site has a catchment area of about 40,000 km².
  • Due to Mongolian country characteristics and situation, the value of 315 MW installed capacity has been selected.
  • There are 21 types of fish at the Eg river.
  • The new bridge that will be built across River Selenge will be a steel concrete bridge.
  • Turbines and generators are expected to be replaced after 32 years of operation.
  • Peak demand of the Mongolian energy system reached 948 MW, exceeding both installed and feasible generation capacity and the reason for increased imports of electricity
  • Electricity is imported from Russia to the Central Region Integrated System via Selendum sub-station Russia and Darkhan sub-station Mongolia.

  • CONTRACTOR
  •  MCPCGR LLC

MCPCGr LLC was formed in 2002 and carries out its activities in the directions of preparing designs of access roads, bridges, pipelines and aerodromes. MCPCGr LLC prepared designs of 98.6 km Oyutolgoi-Gashuun road, 160 km road from Khurengol coal mine to Burgastain border town, Gobi-Altai province, Underkhaan-Choibalsan hard surfaced road, 302.7 km Dalanzadgad-Gurvantes road, 132 km Underkhaan-Baruun-Urt road and 70 km road from Mandakh nuur coal mine to the Khangi border town, Dornogobi province. Apart from this, MCPCGr LLC prepared designs of bridges such as 241.26 m bridge over Herulen River in Bayanmunkh soum, Hentii province, 163.1m and 127m bridges over Herulen River in Kholonbuir soum, Dornod province, respectively. Project unit has been cooperating with this company on a contract bases for preparation of designs of 71.9 km road from the Govil village of the Erdenet town to the DAM SITE and 321.08 m long bridge design planned to be built over Selenge River.

  • Date:  2014.03.18 - 2014.08.20
  • BASIS
  • In 1995 the length of access road route to the DAM SITE was determined to be 135.5 km using 70 km Erdenet-Khyalgant gravel road, 7 small bridges, Khyalgant reinforced concrete bridge build over Selenge River. After having studied the utilization of the above-mentioned road and bridges we concluded that the Erdenet-Khyalgant gravel road and bridges became old and unable to bear even its design load. Therefore this road and small bridges shall be rehabilitated and there shall be built 11 reinforced concrete bridges, 50.5 km road and 15 km mountain road in the Khyalgant-DAM SITE direction. Today’s significant increase of community recreation and tourism movement between Erdenet and Khyalgant towns may cause difficulties in a safe and smooth passing transportation during construction period to the DAM SITE. For transportation of goods, materials and equipment to the Egiin Goliin HPP DAM SITE new 71.9 km long route was selected for access road. Thus the old alignment was changed completely and new alignment was called Erdenet-Zosiin pass and DAM SITE.

  • IMPORTANCE
  • The selected access road route was approved by the Scientific and Technology Council of the Ministry of Road and Transportation. As a result of selecting new access road route, changing the old one, the length of access road shortened twice. Thus new route helps not only ensure favorable condition for transportation of goods, materials and equipment fast and reliably to the DAM SITE but also the operation expenses goes down to its optimal minimum.

  • CONCLUSION
  • Construction cost of access road along this new route goes down by US$ 31.5M and the transportation cost during construction period by US$ 12.4M, respectively. The result is that we will save US$ 43.9M in total. After construction of this road there will be created favorable infrastructure condition for Bugat and Selenge soums of the Bulgan province and also opens convenient opportunity to develop tourism in this region. MCPCGR LLC (from March 18, 2014 to August 20, 2014): prepared detailed designs of 71.9 km access road to be built from Erdenet to the DAM SITE and 320 m long bridge over Selenge River by the resolution № 2/2901 of the Ministry of Road and Transportation dated May 28, 2014 which approved acees road route, and resolution № 10 of the same Ministry dated June 5, 2014 pursuant to the contract № АГ 14/14. This detailed design was reviewed by the verification Board of the Construction Development Center of the Ministry of Construction and Urbanization and general verification conclusions № 810/2014 of June 27, 2014 and № 1112/2014 of August 20, 2014 were passed, respectively

  • PRELIMINARY WORK
  • With a view to unimpededly deliver goods to the Egiin Goliin HPP DAM SITE we have to build access road and bridges which meets the requirements of traffic safety, low operation cost and bridge carrying capacity prior to the start of the site work. Because of this the access road route was optimized and helped licensed professional local contractor prepare the access road detailed design which was verified by the Construction Development Center of the Ministry of Construction and Urbanization and issued general conclusion. Now it is getting ready to start preliminary construction works. Following problems were solved along the access road route: There were issued orders by the Bugat, Selenge and Khutag-Undur soums of the Orkhon and Bulgan provinces to use land along the routes of OETL and access road to the DAM SITE; Referring to the routes of OETL and access road pass through the state special needs land the Ministry of Defense issued its conclusion that the above-mentioned routes will not have any impacts on shooting practice development by shooting armament, zenith, artillery, tanks and land forces to conduct combat training at the military training center based on discussions in field meetings in the presence of relevant officials (officers) of the Ministry of Defense, Military unit 186 and General Staff of the Armed Force of Mongolia. The access road detailed engineering design took into account the passing of military purpose track and reflected to construct 3 cement concrete pavement passages. The access road route was to cross or pass 13 inter-city fiber optic cable points. Thus, discussed this issue with the state owned information and communication networking company and established bilateral memorandum of cooperation, technical specifications to transfer these cables has been resolved. Therefore, the preliminary construction work is ready to commence.
